Visitors but no enquiries? 8 checks to improve your website's conversion journey
More traffic does not automatically create more enquiries. Before paying for another campaign, follow the journey from the advert or search result to the conversation. These checks help you identify possible friction; they are not promises of a particular conversion rate. Use your own baseline and assess the quality of enquiries as well as their number.
1. Match the promise at the top
A visitor arriving from an advert should immediately recognise the same service and offer. Say who you help, what you provide and where you operate. For example, a hypothetical renovation enquiry page should explain the type of work before presenting a general company story.
2. Explain what happens next
Replace vague invitations with a concrete next step, such as discussing a project. Explain whether the visitor will speak to an assistant, leave contact details or arrange a later follow-up. Do not promise instant human support or a free assessment unless your team actually provides it.
3. Answer purchase questions
State the service scope, process, likely information needed and any genuine exclusions. If pricing depends on requirements, explain those factors rather than hiding the whole conversation behind a contact button. Collect the questions your team repeatedly receives and turn them into useful page content.
4. Build trust with evidence
Use authorised testimonials and real project examples. Describe what was done and the relevant context; avoid invented customer counts or guaranteed results. A small but specific example can be more useful than broad claims that your service is the best.
5. Test the mobile journey
Read the page on a narrow screen and try the main action with one hand. Check text size, buttons, menus and whether the chat bubble covers important content. Test the full route, including the chat opening, rather than judging mobile usability from a desktop screenshot.
6. Check loading and stability
Compress oversized images, give images dimensions and review unnecessary scripts. Test a real mobile connection as well as a speed report. Prioritise issues that delay the main content or move the action button; a performance score alone cannot tell you why a visitor leaves.
7. Make enquiries easy to start
Keep a clear chat entry near the offer and after the main answers. With Chatbase, plan the questions and follow-up route, request only necessary contact information and explain its purpose. Test the unavailable-chat fallback and confirm that someone can follow up on genuine enquiries.
8. Measure meaningful progress
Track visits, chat starts, submitted contact details and qualified enquiries as separate events where your tools support them. A chat click is not a lead. Calculate an enquiry rate using a consistent period and definition, filter spam, and change one major element at a time before comparing results. Tell us where your journey gets stuck in the chat.
